Holiday Crafting

Sometimes giving gifts can be more trying than fun! Several of my friends and I have been discussing how difficult it can be to find the right gift for all those special people in your life. Especially those friends and family members that have everything! People often think about gifts that they can make themselves to give out during the holidays. This can be a little daunting for those of us that are not so crafty. Well, I would like to offer a link to the fabric crafting blog on Etsy. This blog has been great for me, the fabric challenged crafter that I am. This summer I discovered how to make a simple skirt and this week I found out how to make fabric cards. Since, I am slightly creative I do have tons of fabric that I thought looked pretty in the store but have yet to do anything with. So, I am going to make these fabric cards this week and give them as holiday gifts! The instructions are so easy that I think most people could do it! Here is the link and I will post photos later this week of how mine turn out.

Not sure why the link isn't a hyperlink, but you can cut and paste.

Have fun and let me know if you try it too!

Support French Bulldog Rescue Network in July

My store has started its big July fundraiser for the French Bulldog Rescue Network. 10% of the profit from any item that is purchased this month will be donated to FBRN. Also, check out my latest treasury. Its called Christmas in July Up in the Sky. All of the items I picked will be on sale this month. Yaay! Who doesn't love a sale?

We hope to raise about $250 this month for FBRN. But, hey, maybe we will be able to raise more? There are also many more Frenchie related items for sale in the "Frenchies and Bostons" section of the shop.

Christmas in July Sale and French bulldog Rescue Network Fundraiser

July is going to be a big month for Locale Vintage. We are donating 10% of all profits to the French Bulldog Rescue Network and we are having a Christmas in July Sale. Actually our Christmas in July sale prices were listed this morning so you can get an early start on your sale shopping today. Items in the handmade jewelry and many other sections of the store are now on sale. We are coming home from vacation tomorrow and have many new items to add to the store, especially in the French Bulldog and Boston Terrier Catagory! We have a Hubley French Bulldog door stop and a Hubley Boston Terrier paper weight that will be available this week.

Many other Etsy store are also paticipating in the Christmas in July Sale so don't miss your chance to score some great deals. When you go to Etsy and are searching for items, type in the code: CIJ so that the sales show up for the other stores.

Larry the Boston Terrier needs our help

Vacation in Crested Butte Colorado and Fostering a French Bulldog

We are taking a much needed vacation this week in the lovely Crested Butte, CO and taking the time to catch up on our reading and research for our store as well. Sometimes when you are in the middle of working on your store, posting, doing write ups, shipping, treasure hunting for new inventory, reworking vintage items, and creating unqiue pieces you forget to take the time to remember your focus. Sometimes I get so involved in everything that goes into running my Etsy business that I forget to center, ground, and reflect. While we have only been open since May 11, our store has had in my opinion, success. I have heard that July is a slow season for online retail so I am preparing for a month where I will have time to research and work on the store more than work on getting to the post office.

So...with this newfound time on my hands what will I do?
I will definetly be watching as much True Blood as possible! Favorite TV show.
After that I am excited to begin working on refurbishing several pieces of mid century furniture that I would like to post in the fall. I have two vintage 1940s shop stools that are amazing. I have been using them as props in many of my photos. I need to sand them down and restain them as well as get some rust removed and repaint the legs. Any opinions out there as to whether I should try to sell them as is or should I refurbish? I will post photos of them when I return from vacation.

My husband and I are also fostering a French Bulldog for the French Bulldog Rescue Network. She is absolutely adorable. Her name is Butter Bean and she is a 9 year old cream princess. She loves to play soccer and snuggle. She makes the cutest puffer fish noises (do puffer fish make noises?) when she looks at you sometimes. She makes me smile. We will be posting her as available for adoption soon. Check out www.frenchbulldogresuce.org under foster dogs for Butter Bean.

Our vacation up here in the mountains has been great so far. Very restful and renewing.

Looking forward to weekend Treasure Hunting

Yesterday was a great day for our fundraiser for FBRN. Thank you for everyone who is supporting us in our efforts to help the Frenchies. I also got a chance to visit with a friend who is coming on board the Locale Vintage team. Wayne and I are so happy that Melissa Niles is going to be working with us. She filled me in on some really awesome finds she acquired in Big Bear last weekend.

Melissa and I are going to be looking for more treasures this weekend at the Pasadena City College Flea Market and then go off to lunch. So excited to spend more time with my new business partner and very good friend!

Etsy Shop Donating 10 Per Cent

Etsy Shop Donating 10 Per Cent

Do I like French Bulldogs and Boston Terriers? YES!

This weekend I was able to get my hands on some awesome vintage Bostons and Frenchies for my Etsy store. This summer I am doing fund raisers for The French Bulldog Rescue Network and Boston Buddies Boston Terrier Rescue of Southern CA. May was our first month open on Etsy and I started with raising money for FBRN. 10% of profits from critter themed items are donated to FBRN. In May I raised $16 for French Bulldog Rescue Network. I know its not much, but we just opened our store, so I think its a good start. For the rest of June we will continue with this fundraiser and then in July 10% of our entire store profits will be donated to FBRN. Then, come August, we are going to be raising money for Boston Buddies. We will also be donating 10% of our entire store profits to Boston Buddies for the month of August. We feel that giving back is an integral part of our store philosophy. These two rescue groups have also done a lot for us personally. We adopted Bubba from FBRN in June of 2009 and Loofa from Boston Buddies in May of 2008. They are my babies and I love them soooo much! Its our way of saying thank you to these two organizations.

This weekend was great for Treasure Hunting!

This weekend I went to a lot of yardsales and estates sales and found some amazing pieces. Check out the new listings at my etsy store. I will post some photos later. One of my favorite finds was a lot of vintage clothing from the 1940s and 1950s. They are at the dry cleaners right now but will be up on my Etsy sight soon.

Welcome to our Blog!

We just opened our Etsy store at www.localevintage.etsy.com about two weeks ago and are having so much fun! Check back later today for pictures from our most recent treasure hunts!

Some people have told me, mainly my sister, that I should blog about my handmade jewelry and my treasure hunting for vintage goodies. So, i decided to take my little sister's advice and get started!

The first things that people want to know is why I started my Etsy store. Well, that again I can thank my little sis for! I have been creating and selling handmade jewelry for 10 years, but never really dedicated myself to putting it out there on the internet. My sister suggested Etsy, and since I absolutely love Etsy I decided to give it a try. Well, its working out pretty well so far! I love the community that supports each other on Etsy.

I just joined the Etsy Vintage Street Team yesterday. I am very excited about it and the team is great. Check out the team link at http://team.etsy.com/viewteam.php?id=732

That takes us to Vintage. I have always loved old things from vintage to antique. I grew up in Alabama in an area that was steeped with old things and yard sales that were out in front yards year round. Over time I have developed an eye for the types of vintage items that I love and that are also functional. These are also the items I include in my store at etsy. From jewelry to vases and furniture, if it catches my eye and I think I would use it, I post it to my store (If I don't keep it for myself!) I hope that I am able to continue to curate a collection that appeals to many people and also shows my personal taste and likes.
